Nestled in a secluded pine grove, AWOL Kennebunkport provides visitors a respite from daily life in its modern, comfort-focused hotel.
The property includes 11 newly built cabin suites.
Going into the holiday season, nothing is more necessary than taking a few days to recharge and unwind. Thanks to AWOL Kennebunkport, serenity is closer than we think. As the newest property from Massachusetts-based boutique hotel company Lark Hotels, AWOL offers luxury rooms and cabin suites, surrounded by nature: Think pine, elm, balsam fir, birch trees and wild Maine blueberry bushes. Dock Square and the village’s river green are only a short walk away, but the retreat also provides guests with the space to embrace privacy and refresh.
“Because of our exceptional location, guests at AWOL Kennebunkport can be in the middle of the action but feel like they’re in the middle of nowhere,” says Lark Hotels president and Elder & Ash partner Rob Blood. “We carefully designed this retreat to offer many private spaces but also opportunities to enjoy the company of other travelers.”
Each suite is designed with a neutral palette and earth tones.
When planning an escape to AWOL Kennebunkport, guests can choose from a variety of accommodations, including the historic Captain Walker house with six main building suites and 11 newly built cabin suites, some being dog-friendly. Each suite was crafted by local design firm Elder & Ash. The modern style is married with comfort while keeping in mind the natural beauty of Maine’s woods. To complement the wild surroundings and evoke a relaxing atmosphere, Elder & Ash used a neutral palette and earth tones with white and gray details. Each suite creates a restful environment, complete with custom white oak beds and cement gas fireplaces, surrounded by modern paintings from Brooklyn artist Alex Soffer.
Each AWOL Kennebunkport suite features a private bath
Begin each morning with a complimentary breakfast featuring artisanal breads and pastries, tasty spreads like Nutella and various toppings, including cream cheese, hummus, jams, granola, honey, bacon bits, capers, smoked salmon and pea shoots. Guests can also make a bowl of yogurt with fresh fruit or sip on juices, coffee and tea. After a day of biking, hiking or exploring Kennebunkport’s lively downtown, unwind in the soaking tub before curling up by the crackling fireplace with a good book. Whether visitors are hoping to disconnect or reconnect in solitude, AWOL Kennebunkport provides the sanctuary to do so.
“Like our sister hotel in Provincetown, AWOL Kennebunkport invites guests to come as they are and to escape the ordinary,” says Blood. “We’re excited to introduce AWOL to the community and for our guests to embrace all of the amazing attractions that Kennebunkport offers.” 34 Maine St., Kennebunkport, Maine, 207.967.2117, awolkport.com
