When Nancy Armstrong’s son was diagnosed with ADHD, the Boston University alumna felt as if she didn’t have anything to guide her. And she likely wasn’t the only one—of note, 7 million children are affected by ADHD, as well as 23 million adults, in the United States. But to every problem, there is a solution, and Armstrong found hers within her most recent documentary, The Disruptors. Following five families living with ADHD, the award-winning film spotlights big names like will.i.am, Paris Hilton, Howie Mandel and Jillian Michaels (among others), who turned their diagnosis into game-changing personalities that led to their major successes.

Founder, Catherine Fisher Clothing, catherinefisherclothing.com Photographed by Rachael Shtifter at PARLR Brand Studio
There’s many titles that Catherine Fisher has established herself with: biographer, innkeeper, acupressurist and baker. But in October 2021, she added fashion designer to her résumé with a sustainable fashion collection of pieces made with long-lasting quality in mind. Each inspired by one of her poems, her debut line features dreamy wardrobe staples like a reversible striped jacket with a handpainted pocket and 12 Corozo nut buttons, a handpainted tunic with a hexagonal neckline and double-cuffed sleeves, and full bell-sleeved dusters with handmade paint brush accessories. Now in the works: an edgier collection of sustainable tees called The Fascinators, as well as a brandnew short tunic inspired by snowballs in collaboration with fine weaver Emi Ito in Bath, Maine.

As an eighth-generation member in her family to work in stone, Carlotta Mandra is New England’s go-to for specialty stone from granite and marble to quartzite and beyond. Having officially stepped into the role as President this year, Mandra is working on redesigning the entire showroom and building entrance—just in time for Cumar's 30th anniversary. But behind the scenes, the Northeastern alumna has a style of her own. Think casual sophistication influenced by her travels through Italy.
