Known for his eponymous leisurewear collection, Haitian American fashion designer Victor Glemaud teams up with Schumacher to launch his first home collection, inspired by his rich cultural heritage and full of color and texture.

On the surface, one could mistake this collection for another classic version of toile de Jouy, depicting pastoral scenes from the European countryside and the like. But, just as the world has evolved, fashion designer Victor Glemaud has ensured toile follows suit by simply celebrating his heritage. In collaboration with historic New York fabric and wallpaper firm Schumacher, Glemaud has created Cul-De-Sac, an imaginative portfolio of fabrics, wallcoverings and trims inspired by his home country of Haiti. As Glemaud’s first foray into home, the designs—named after his mother, sister, aunts and best friends—feature luxurious saturated colors, patterns and textures that vary in scale and subject matter.
Toussaint Toile in blue and Sky
The aforementioned Toussaint Toile pattern was the starting point for the collection. “I was reading this book, Black Spartacus [by Sudhir Hazareesingh], about the life of Toussaint Louverture, and thought he would be the perfect subject for a toile de Jouy,” says the designer. Louverture, a former slave turned general, is hallowed as Haiti’s liberator, and when Schumacher approached Glemaud, his story was top of mind. Other tropes of scenic tropical landscapes, elegant flowers and multidirectional stripes mirror the designer’s unique take on knitwear and the dynamic geometries for which he is known in womenswear. Another standout pattern is the supergraphic 1970s-inspired Virginia panel fabric and wallpaper, meant to evoke clean and sophisticated lines that still explore an abundance of creativity.

Says Schumacher’s creative director, Dara Caponigro, “When Victor Glemaud first came across my radar, I was immediately smitten and knew his sensibility would translate beautifully into the world of home.” She continues, “His wallpapers, fabrics and trims for Schumacher capture the same spirit of sophistication, fun, ease and seduction that his fashion does. They feel fresh and cool and stylish—outside of the box yet never trying too hard.”

Launched in May, the collection consists of 14 patterns, with three to four colorways, totaling 33 SKUs. “I have always loved interior design and have found this to be another creative outlet to express myself; I could not think of a better partner than Schumacher for my inaugural collection,” says Glemaud. “Color and texture are pillars within the DNA of my brand, and it’s my hope to bring a sense of joyfulness to all that experience the range.”
