Wearing too many hats isn’t a problem for David DiCicco. He’s done everything from event planning to production to business development, and he recently added entrepreneur to that list; this past October, he launched his own event concierge firm, DiCicco Design. He describes what it feels like to run his own business and what he imagines for the year ahead.
What have the first couple of months looked like for you?
I’ve done 10 projects, the last being a holiday party at the Four Seasons. It’s an event I’ve planned for them for the past six years when I worked with Marc Hall Design. The hotel reached out to me just 12 days in advance and asked if they could keep my setup in the ballroom for two more events that same weekend. I told them absolutely, and asked if we could do one more celebration as well, a launch party for my company. So I ended up doing four parties in a 27-hour period. We flipped the ballroom three times. I never thought in my career that I would do something like that, certainly not in my ninth week of business. It was just an epic experience and showed me how much I’m capable of.
What sets you apart from other event planners in Boston?
I don’t think there’s many people who have experience in finance and business in addition to their creative side, but because I do, I’m a double threat.
What are you looking forward to celebrating in 2020?
I have a pretty amazing 20th wedding anniversary in September for a client who has been near and dear to me since 2014. I celebrated the wife’s 40th birthday with them five years ago, so I’m looking forward to toasting them again.
