Iconic five-star resort, Ocean House is introducing a truly luxurious, can’t-miss land and sea experience.
Situated high on the bluffs in Watch Hill, RI overlooking the Atlantic, picturesque Ocean House now boasts the ultimate land and sea experience. Climb aboard the fully renovated 1937 Aphrodite yacht which once carried luminaries such as Fred Astaire, Shirley Temple, Sir Laurence Olivier, President Roosevelt and Nelson Rockefeller and then spend three nights in the hotel’s sprawling Morgan Suite.
The bi-level suite is a perfect companion to a day at sea, Its tranquil blues, gentle creams, and varnished wood nod to the region’s nautical heritage and the panoramic windows boast expansive ocean views. The space includes a private outdoor terrace, a garden space with beach-level access, four guest rooms and a stunning living room and kitchen.
As you set sail for the scenic sunset Champagne cruise on Aphrodite, you will learn her storied history from a knowledgeable captain while being well-cared for by an attentive crew. In May of ‘37, the craft was originally built by Purdy Boat Company for Wall Street financier John Hay (Jock) Whitney of Long Island. The elegant and sleek 74-footer would become a sort of “Who’s Who” for summer day cruises, only to be turned into a Coast Guard auxiliary vessel in time of war. In 2003, Aphrodite was sold to her present owner, Charles Royce, the owner and proprietor of the Ocean House––not to mention a classic boat enthusiast.
All hotel guests can reserve a private cruise on the Aphrodite during their stay through October 31 with the service resuming in late spring of 2025. Choose from a variety of curated tours to scenic destinations and bustling regional locales––from a ride around Fisher Island or Montauk and being dropped off on Block Island with a picnic lunch to a sunset cocktail cruise culminating in a gourmet dinner in nearby Stonington. But the luxurious land and sea experience will only be around until October 31st so reserve your spot and enjoy life like the haut monde from a bygone era today.
