Boston welcomes its latest destination.
A shot of the project’s progress last fall
Whether you’re in Fenway cheering on the Sox or wandering through Bay Bay, the city’s newest addition truly can’t be missed. Meet Lyrik (lyrikbackbay.com)—a mixed-use development at the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue, Boylston Street and Newbury Street. From the talented minds of Samuels & Associates (samuelsre.com) and Elkus Manfredi Architects (elkus-manfredi.com) the European-piazza-inspired plaza will boast shops, restaurants, a multi-tiered public plaza, the city’s first all-electric hotel—citizenM—and corporate headquarters for companies like CarGurus and The LEGO Group. And the inspiration for the concept’s melodic name? A nod to its neighbors, Berklee College of Music and The Boston Pops, as well as the city’s legacy of music and art. “Lyrik will create a new center of gravity for the neighborhood,” says Steve Samuels, chairman and principal of Samuels & Associates. “It will be a gathering spot, a meeting place, respite and go-to all in one with new-to-Boston brand experiences, immersive restaurant offerings and local favorites that bring a new and exciting energy to one of Back Bay’s busiest intersections.”
Lyrik is Back Bay’s buzziest new arrival.
This year, Bostonians will start to see Lyrik come to life—following a decade of planning—with the arrival of the city’s first retail location for the electric vehicle brand Rivian, New York’s acclaimed Avra Estiatorio (coming spring 2025) and local favorites like George Howell Coffee, Pink Carrot and organic tea house ChiCha San Chen. Plus, they will welcome the city to explore with live music, rotating art installations and more throughout the next few months. Samuels concludes, “When the plaza opens this summer, lined with locally loved and world-renowned retail and restaurant experiences, Lyrik will be where Boston starts and finishes its day in Back Bay.”
