Leslie Fine redesigned this downtown luxury condo into a luxurious and minimalist living space.
Leslie Fine and her team designed millwork using dark stained rift oak with brushed metal inserts for a unique feature wall.
When designer Leslie Fine (lesliefineinteriors.com) first saw the condo on an upper floor of downtown luxury residential high-rise The Millennium Residences at Winthrop Center, it was little more than a big white box. Although uninspiring on the inside with minimal lighting and detail, the many windows throughout gave way to eye-popping views of the Charles River and Boston Harbor. Her challenge was to reimagine the space and infuse it with a character and style that wouldn’t interfere with the scenery.
She got to work creating a lighting plan with Bouyea & Associates based on the design scheme and floor plan. “A very detailed lighting plan not only highlights design details, but it also creates a warm and inviting space,” she says. To incorporate lighting in the primary suite, she collaborated with builders FBN Construction, who renovated the entire home and added new flooring in the bedrooms and foyer. Fine designed dark-stained millwork with a reeded platform and worked with Herrick & White to install it on both the headboard and television walls. They then created a millwork “bridge” across the ceiling to connect the two feature walls, which allowed for a beautiful center chandelier and dramatic cove lighting. The intricate millwork was paired with upholstered leather panels and a leather bed frame, designed by Fine, which not only elevates the space but also warms it. Integrated nightstands, Holly Hunt pendant lighting, a floor lamp by Phoenix Day, an inviting chaise lounge by Vladimir Kagan and an end-of-bed bench by Dakota Jackson complete the look.
Detailed millwork coordinated by FBN was also added in the living room to transform the once plain Jane room into a chic and stylish anchor for the condo. This time, Fine and her team designed millwork using dark stained rift oak with brushed metal inserts to create a unique feature wall. The adjacent bar area was also transformed with cabinetry using the same materials, along with custom metal and glass shelves that suspend in front of another wall made unique with wallpaper by Romo.
Colors throughout the condo are warm and inviting but subdued to allow the stunning cityscape to shine. The condo’s great expanse of windows was embellished with elegant wood valances, installed by FBN Construction, that incorporate lighting and drapes fabricated by Makkas Drapery Workroom.
The end result is striking and sophisticated, unique and approachable. The homeowners can sit back, relax and lose themselves in the sights just beyond their gaze.
