Veteran television anchor Kim Carrigan enters the world of podcasting.
Veteran televison anchor Kim Carrigan embarks on a new chapter as host of her podcast Carrigan & Company.
If you’ve lived in Boston long enough, chances are you know Kim Carrigan. She was the evening anchor on Channel seven before becoming a host of Fox’s morning show. In January, she launched a podcast called Carrigan & Company (@carriganandcompany) with her good friend David Thomson, who acts as the executive producer. After shopping it around, they landed with the team behind Big Night Live who had just built a podcasting studio. “These guys have been incredibly kind to us. They’re a great resource,” Carrigan says.
Unique from other podcasts, the format more closely resembles a television show, with 15-minute segments showcasing notables from Boston and beyond. Carrigan shares the interviewer’s seat with a different co-host each episode. So far, guests have included former Governor Charlie Baker, comedian Lenny Clark, journalist Joan Lunden and iconic singer Ruth Pointer.
The podcast has been a way for Carrigan to reinvent herself, a new medium in which she can showcase her talent, skill and personality that made her a successful television anchor for decades. She’s been able to take all that she’s learned over the years and put it toward developing the podcast. It’s also been an opportunity for her to take control. Although in the past she had input in the content aired on television, she’s now at the helm.
As she embarks on this new chapter of her impressive career in Boston, Carrigan reflects back. “There was the pressure of performing every day and being knowledgeable, of keeping up with events outside of the station, trying to get enough sleep and family pressures. But from the outside looking back at it now, I was the luckiest person alive. I loved every minute of it,” she says.
