The hotel is named after Richard Hajjar, who is the youngest son in the Hajjar family.
“When we bought the hotel, we renovated everything and brought in all new furnishings,” Richard Hajjar says. “We really knew that this type of hotel was exactly what the island needed.”
On an island that is known for its older, more traditional hotels, Hajjar aimed to create a new and fresh take on a Martha’s Vineyard getaway with a design concept that would appeal to those looking for a more luxurious Martha’s Vineyard vacation. In the heart of Edgartown, the Richard offers optimal proximity to restaurants and shops. With travel resuming this summer, The Richard is busier than ever. The Hajjars have full ownership of four hotels on Martha’s Vineyard (The Richard, The Christopher, The Sydney and the Edgartown Inn) and three hotels in Newport, Rhode Island (The Cliffside Inn, The Attwater, and Gilded). The Hajjars are the co-owners of two hotels in Boston (The Harborside Inn, and The Charlesmark Hotel). The Hajjars also have full ownership of more than 100 commercial buildings and 1500 apartments, mostly in the New England area. Travel and Leisure recently included one of the Hajjar’s Martha’s Vineyard hotels, The Edgartown inn, on their 2021 It List. Lark hotels, a boutique Hotel management company, manages the Hajjar’s Martha’s Vineyard and Newport hotels.
