Spend an evening in Falovortown at Guy Fieri's newest local culinary endeavor, Guy Fieri's Boston Kitchen + Bar (guyfieri.com). Located in Tremont's Grand Masonic Lodge, this spot boasts an expansive bar, tasty comfort food like the Motley Que Pulled Pork Sandwich and large, shareable cocktails like the Candy Apple Sangria. After the Dec. 9 opening, we caught up with the Emmy Award-winning host himself to discuss what locals can expect from his second Boston eatery.
What was the inspiration behind Guy Fieri's Boston Kitchen + Bar?
"Boston was the inspiration. It’s such a great town. The people of New England know their food, and I’ve been able to meet a bunch of them shooting Diners, Drive Ins and Dives, visiting my restaurants Tequila Cocina and Guy’s Foxwoods and, of course, my wife is a New Englander. Why wouldn’t I want to be a part of such a great scene?"
Why did you choose the Grand Masonic Lodge as the location of your next Boston restaurant?
"My friends and partners, Ed Kane and Randy Greenstein of Big Night Entertainment, came to me with the location and once I saw it, I really dug it. Boston is so full of history, and to work within a building that has so much of it’s own is pretty cool."
How would you describe the dining experience at Guy Fieri's Boston Kitchen + Bar?
"I hope it’s what I look to deliver in all of my restaurants around the world…great scratch-made food, killer cocktails and an all-around good time. There’s a lot of tough stuff out there in the world these days and I’m a firm believer that a big platter of Trash Can Nachos can really make the world a better place!"
How does the design of the space tie into the overall experience?
"I’ve worked on designing a lot of restaurants all over the world, from casinos in Africa to airports in Columbia, from drive thru’s in Florida to now, a historic building on Tremont. It’s all about feeling out the space and working with it, not against it, to be the vessel for the experience you’re looking to deliver. The vibe and the food have to complement each other."
What about this new restaurant is most exciting for you?
"Showing people a good time through great food is always exciting to me. But I’m more concerned with what’s exciting to you…have you tried the Bacon Mac N Cheese Burger?"
