A whiskey with a high age statement is one of worthiness and finesse. The maturity of scotch whiskey is crucial to its integrity and price, and while picking up a bottle of 10-year-old whiskey will surely satisfy, what if it was aged for five decades?
With a 200-year history revered by whiskey connoisseurs, GlenDronach Distillery pushes the worthy factor of scotch whiskey to a whole new age—literally, making its mark in the scotch world once again with its first-ever release of a 50-year-old single malt scotch whiskey.

The GlenDronach Aged 50 Years bottle is a milestone for the already prestigious distillery, being the oldest and rarest single malt scotch whiskey ever produced from Scotland's oldest licensed distillery.
Aging far beyond the usual scotch 10 to 12 years of maturity, The GlenDronach was distilled in 1971, maturing in rare Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso sherry casks from the Spanish bodegas of Jerez in Andalucia. The spirit took its final maturation in a single Pedro Ximenez cask, and Master Blender Rachel Barrie personally selected the chosen casks to share with whiskey lovers around the world.
“The GlenDronach Aged 50 Years is the most prestigious expression of what this timeless, richly-sherried Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky has to offer,” Barrie states in a press release. “At 50 Years Old, it is exceptionally rich and seductive, with mellow layers of alluring complexity. On the nose, ripe dark cherry and plum are the preludes to the harmony of rolling stone fruit, while the palate brings an exquisite overture of flavor with dense undertones of dark chocolate, tobacco and cocoa.”
Established in 1826, the GlenDronach Distilleries' craft of fine sherry casks has led to high regard in the whiskey world. The distillery spirits are married in Spanish oak casks that once housed rich Pedro Ximenes or nutty Oloroso sherry. The GlenDronach Aged 50 years is the epitome of this deeper sherried and full-bodied spirit.
The scotch whiskey is bottled at 43.8% ABV and each bottle is numbered and cased in genuine leather. With a retail price of $25,000, only 198 bottles will be available at select specialty retailers worldwide. Learn more at glendronachdistillery.com.
