The most stylish way to summer this season
A look at the Moke, here in blue with white seats
In search of the ultimate summer ride? Look no further—Moke America is the perfect solution. Although the company was founded in 2017 by Todd Rome, the electric car that counts celebrities like Kris Jenner, Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas as fans is now locally available through Moke America of Kennebunkport (mokeamericaofKPT.com). This is the first and only retailer of the vehicle in the New England Area and will feature both in-house models for purchase and custom orders. “Last summer, my family got to borrow a Moke from a friend—and my grandchildren absolutely loved it,” Tim Bruno, president of Moke America of Kennebunkport, remembers. “I believe Mokes are magical and have the power to transport the driver and passengers far beyond their intended location. … I’m so excited to bring that to customers in Maine and Massachusetts.”
The electric car is perfect for getting around in the summer, no matter your destination.
Interestingly, the coveted car dates back to the late 1950s, when the model began as a military invention for the British army meant to be combat-ready and parachute from the sky. Although that idea didn’t last long, the vehicle’s open-air concept was loved by luminaries like Princess Margaret and the Beach Boys, lending to its popularity today. “It’s the ultimate joy ride that happens to be street legal,” Bruno adds, noting that it can travel up to 40 miles on a single plug, reaching speeds of 25 mph. “Mokes are for relaxing and savoring the summer, which in New England, goes by far too fast.”
Pop to the vehicle’s aesthetic
Looking into the finer details, the electric car is carbon-free and efficient and even features more legroom, expanded trunk space and a great sound system. Plus, it’s fully customizable with many colors, tops and other options. Bruno concludes, “I’ve been in the car business for 40 years and I’ve seen it all! However, I’ve never seen joy like I did in my grandkids’ faces like when they took their first ride in a Moke. … I knew this was a special vehicle and a great opportunity.”
