Despite only starting her artistic career a few years ago, New England-born artist Dori Desautel Broudy continues to embark on new collaborations with some of fashion’s and television’s top designers. This spring, fans can look forward to a limited-edition clutch collection with designer Jeffrey Levinson—which will dazzle in an array of spring colors.
Dori Desautel Broudy (doridesautelbroudy.com) describes herself as a “New England girl who loves Philadelphia.” From fine art to stationery and acrylic blocks, Broudy’s Maine roots drive her to create colorful, cheery designs like illustrated hearts and vibrant abstracts. Although she currently resides in Pennsylvania, the former lawyer spent most of her youth in Rhode Island and Maine. “I think my artwork is intended to exude joy [and] celebrate the sanctity of childhood and purity of play—and all of those things for me are based in New England,” she says. Aft er beginning collaborations with hotels, restaurants and department stores last year, Broudy’s work will finally be highlighted nationwide in a new TV series, Tough Love with Hilary Farr, that aired in December. The HGTV show—which follows Love It or List It designer Hilary Farr as she renovates homes—will feature a selection of pieces from her portfolio, and Broudy is enthralled. “I’m midway through year four of my company, and I still can’t believe how quickly things have evolved,” she shares. While she doesn’t yet have many New England retailers other than one shop in Cohasset, Mass., Broudy hopes to expand to the region soon. “I hope to continue the positive reception I’ve received in Philadelphia in other cities like Boston,” she shares. “New England was my home for a long time and so much a part of who I am.”
