Spring has sprung, and you know what that means—spring cleaning! Give your home a refresh with one of these tips from Boston’s hottest design experts.
“Spring home décor calls for unexpected pops of bright color, from upholstery to dinnerware, or beautiful accent pieces like a subtle glass chandelier with small bursts of color. My favorite pieces of the moment are Gio Ponti serverware with lovely patterns and tones. You can kick things up an extra notch, and use wallpaper with bold hues, or large graphics that display a narrative—that is sure to be an instant conversation piece for any and all house guests! Diffused, soft light is another trend whose importance can often be overlooked. The natural properties of porcelain create a radiant and warm glow that pairs perfectly with a bright spring afternoon, without being too harsh.”
“One of the easiest and least expensive ways to freshen up for spring is with pillows. Any decor can benefit from swapping out throw pillows on a sofa, chair or bed with new pillows in spring motifs. For spring 2018, I'd choose pillows with embroidery or appliques, particularly florals; macrame-inspired textures in natural hues; and geometric ethnic patterns like Moroccan Berber patterns.”
“With spring comes estate/yard sales and flea markets. One person’s castaway is another person's spring fling. With the first signs of daffodils and crocuses come the first yard sales of the season. One Saturday morning, get up early, grab a cup of Joe and head out on the town with a friend. The goal? Find that one perfect piece of furniture you can transform to say “hello spring”. My go to’s are great old wicker chairs, an old trunk or happy floral linens. Imagine choosing a unique, weather-worn wicker chair, painting it a vibrant Kelly green and recovering the seat in a floral table cloth. This quick and fun project will brighten up any corner of your house in a jiffy.”
