In 2015, Elizabeth and Joseph went skiing. It was her first time, and needless to say, it didn’t go well. The winter activity became a tradition between the couple, so, for a bit of encouragement, Joseph made a deal during a trip to Vermont three years later: When Elizabeth skied a Black Diamond, she would get a diamond. A few weeks later, the couple made a trip to Park City, Utah. “Right before our trip to Utah, I skied a Black Diamond [at Stowe],” the bride says. “But, I still never thought I would be getting engaged any time soon.” Much to her surprise, she found herself atop a mountain at Deer Valley a few weeks later—accompanied by a cushion-cut diamond with a double diamond band. “I literally almost fell off the mountain,” she says.
One year and 10 months later, the couple said “I do” at St. James Armenian Church in Watertown. Elizabeth is Armenian, so there were numerous traditions strewn throughout the ceremony—for example, the Rite of Crowning, which symbolizes God bestowing glory and honor onto the couple. The priest places the crown upon the heads of the Bride and Groom to signify that now they are King and Queen of their own Kingdom—heir home, in which they will rule with wisdom, justice and integrity, the program read. After the ceremony, the couple and guests celebrated at Fairmont Copley Plaza’s grand ballroom, where multi-flavored layer cake by Dessert Works and cannoli station from Gerardo’s Italian Bakery awaited.
