When you want to eat at home, these restaurants in Boston are the best for takeout.
Elevate dinner at home with takeout from Puritan & Company
Blossom Bar
The best part of takeout is the convenience, but the worst part is missing out on a great cocktail. Order from Blossom Bar and you can have both amazing Sichuan dishes and expertly mixed libations with their craft cocktail cartridges to go. Each is a one serving cocktail made fresh to order and available within 30 minutes. The second best part of takeout? No lines at the bar. 295 Washington St., Brookline, 617.734.1870, blossombarbrookline.com
Capo
Maybe you grew up in a big Italian family and want to recreate the rambunctious Sunday dinners, or maybe you’re rewatching The Sopranos. Whatever the reason you’re craving a big red sauce dinner, you can get it all at Capo from antipasto, to meatballs, to garlic bread, to bolognese, to chicken parm. In addition to the favorites, there’s also a couple of surprises on this takeout menu like cookie dough, pizza kits and cannoli kits. 443 W. Broadway, 617.993.8080, caposouthboston.com
Davio's Northern Italian Steakhouse
The Italian steakhouse was one of the first restaurants in Boston to elevate the dining scene and it remains one of the city’s standouts. It’s a sure bet that anyone who has lived in Boston has visited one of their locations and has a dish they crave. The iconic restaurant has recently joined multiple online delivery services so you can now get your favorite dish anytime you like, anywhere you live. The Philly rolls are calling. Douzo Sushi
There are lots of options for sushi delivery in Boston. But there’s something special about Douzo. Not only are they always reliable and punctual with rolls that are never soggy, but there’s a special attention to small details that sets them apart from the competition. The house salad for example, which at other places can be a sad handful of wilted lettuce with watery dressing, at Douzo is a sizable portion with super crisp, fresh veggies in a dressing that is good to the last drop. They also deliver not just chopsticks thrown in the bottom of the bag, but individually wrapped packets that also include a towelette and a mint. It’s the little things that transform takeout on the couch to a special treat. 131 Dartmouth St., 617.859.8886, douzosushi.com
Fox Pasta
From acclaimed chef Karen Akunowicz comes homemade pastas and sauces. Dinner kits are available on Goldbelly to feed two, four or six people. Just boil some water for the pasta and heat up the sauce and you’ve got a dinner worthy of a trattoria in Rome at your own dining table. Round out your meal by adding harissa-marinated olives, Parmigiano-Reggiano or Taleggio-stuffed focaccia. 28 W. Broadway, 617.766.8630, foxandtheknife.com
Mida
For when you’re craving carbs, but also feel like being fancy, chef Douglass Williams’ elevated Italian food will hit the spot. The focaccia bread is an indulgent marvel, the rich crispy polenta could almost be dessert, and the smoked short rib lasagna is mouth watering. Each bite feels like a treat and after licking the bowls clean, you’ll be so grateful that you can lie down. 782 Tremont St., 617.936.3490, midarestaurant.com
Moona
Eating the Arabic-inspired, spice-filled dishes from Moona is a bit like traveling without leaving your house. Offering delivery seven nights a week means lots of opportunities to explore. Start with mezze like feta fritters with orange blossom honey, or a fattoush salad before moving on to chicken tagine and lamb shoulder. Your mouth will thank you for the adventure. 243 Hampshire St., Cambridge, 617.945.7448, moonarestaurant.com
Puritan & Company
Want to impress with dinner at home but you lack the culinary skills? Executive chef Will Gilson and his team at Puritan & Company are here to help. Chef Cassie Piuma puts her creative spin on traditional Mediterranean flavors in dishes like lentil nachos with a spicy feta fondue and radish tzatziki, pumpkin fritters and pork belly biscuits. The restaurant won’t do takeout during busy dinner hours so plan ahead and get your order in before 4pm. 249 Pearl St., Somerville, 617.764.4464, sarmarestaurant.com
Tenderonis
This is more than just pizza, it’s a party. The flavor combinations at Tenderonis are anything but ordinary—personal favorites include the broccoli with broccoli fondue, roasted and raw broccoli, fontina, lemon and chili and the broken meatball with red sauce, ricotta, basil and fresh mozzarella. Plus, the packaging feels like a gift. Each pizza comes in its own rectangular box with a little baggie of chili oil, crushed red pepper flakes and the proprietary pizza shake. Chef Tiffani Faison is just begging you to take things up a notch. You’ll be torn between ordering all the pizza or trying some of the incredible sides like chicken parm nuggsss, cauliflower picatta, and disco fries. 1363 Bolyston St., 617.425.6262, tenderonis.com
Tonino
It is nearly impossible to get a table in Tonino’s small dining room in Jamaica Plain, unless you plan a month in advance. But that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a taste of the food people are flocking to. Available on their limited takeout menu is pizza, salad and usually a dessert and appetizer like tiramisu and mortadella. For the pastas and other small plates, you need to eat in, but you can sample the pizza at home and have fewer choices to make when you finally snag that table. 669A Centre St., 617.524.9217, toninojp.com
