Lucite. It’s one of our favorite parts of ‘80s and ‘90s design, and it’s making a huge comeback.
From jewelry and accessories, to furniture and fashion, lucite is once again trending, and it’s earned a central focus in Brooklyn-based designer Alexis Bittar’s debut handbag collection, which recently launched for the forthcoming fall season.

Bittar is beloved for his creative earrings, bracelets, necklaces, rings and hair accessories. Now, he expands his universe with a line of handbags, hitting the mark with crossbody purses, clutches, zip pouches and more.
The line is peppered with eye-catching hardware, from three-dimensional side handles in sculptural forms to golden hands for clasps and zipper tabs. Bright colors, python and crocodile skin patterns, shimmering silvers and more strike graphics looks throughout the offerings.
“Designing unique wearable sculpture is one of the key tenets of the brand,” Alexis Bittar says in a press release. “I have always come at design from a fine jewelry perspective, which is why craftsmanship is so important to me. Extending that into the hardware for my handbags is what I think differentiates my new collection and makes it unique.”
Still, the star of the show is without a doubt The Lucite Quad, made with genuine leather and topped with a round handle made from lucite and 14k gold plated metal. Drawing inspiration from Bittar’s head-turning jewelry line, the handbag comes in black, white and gold croc leather, features an inner slip pocket, and includes an optional snake chain cross body strap and dust bag for safe keeping.

Hawk-eyed fashion fans may have spotted The Lucite Quad on model Karlie Kloss or hip-hop star Megan Thee Stallion this summer, toting the design on the streets before its recent launch. The Lucite collar has always been a fixture of Bittar’s designs, most notably the Lucite hinge collar and bracelets, but now it’s taken to a whole new level.
The Lucite Quad is now available online and retails for $745. Look for it in Alexis Bittar stores in New York City and San Francisco, and visit alexisbittar.com to learn more.
