Guests were able to select a hong bao (red envelope with a gift) from the lai see (fortune tree) at the close of the event.
Mandarin Oriental, Boston GM Philipp Knuepfer welcomed the Lunar New Year and wished the guests prosperity during the traditional Lion Dance.

Boston’s business VIPs, Chinatown arts and community leaders, reps from the events and hospitality industry, and other Hub illuminati came together to kick off the Chinese New Year at the Five-Star Mandarin Oriental, Boston in the Back Bay on Feb. 7. The Year of the Earth Pig celebration featured a traditional lai see (fortune) tree, custom Chinese calligraphy for guests, and a lively Lion Dance.
The annual party also recognized the luxury hotel’s 10th anniversary in Boston, with remarks by Mandarin Oriental, Boston GM Philipp Knuepfer. Also on hand, world-renowned Chef Daniel Boulud, presenting a roasted suckling pig and other delicacies from the hotel’s Bar Boulud.
